Kids Camps

Camp is a great alternative to conventional day care, a fun way to meet new friends and to learn about horses. We teach a variety of horsemanship skills such as daily handling, care, grooming, first aid, and of course riding. As well as a couple specialty camps for vaulting and trick riding. Our camp programs give kids a hands on experience with horses, they have two coached lessons a day, plus other activities with the horses.  We also offer summer positions for student camp counsellors.

 Western Performance (show level students)

Western Performance/Horsemanship Skills

A NEW addition last year, this is not a beginner program. Western performance covers the finer arts of western riding. Riders must be able to tack with little assistance, and have basic riding skills at walk/jog, there willing be loping in these classes as well. Lessons will be twice a day plus in class theory and include Equine Anatomy, confirmation, body conditioning, halter, showmanship, western pleasure, reining, ranch riding, horsemanship, command, and trail. This weeks workshops are designed for those students with an interest in showing, and growing true horsemanship skills to further develop their abilities in the show ring.

Beginner

Our beginner camps requires no previous horse experience. The kids learn all about horses including care, grooming, tacking, and of course riding with 2 lessons per day. They will get a chance to try a little bit of everything Maple Rock has to offer from performance, gaming, obstacles, vaulting etc. all at a beginner walk/jog level. On our down time kids will have work sheets, crafts, games, and free play in the shade. This is an excellent way for novice riders to spend time outside with horses, meet new friends and learn.

Western Gaming

We have an all new program for our popular gaming week. Like all our summer camp programs there are two coached lessons each day. In these lessons we will teach students the proper patterns, body controls, drills to improve times, and build their horsemanship skills. How to practise with purpose and make plans and set realistic goals. Each day there will be focus on one or two of the games, with a ket focus on barrel racing and pole bending. Out of the lessons ring we will be touching base on horse health, care, nutrition, and conditioning needed to stay competitive in the sport. This camp is designed for students who have riding experience and are wanting to further their skills. (must be able to walk/jog/lope in control)

We do allow student to bring their own horses to this camp. Horses are required to have proof of vaccination and riders must have proof of liability insurance. They must do their own feeding and stall clean out. There are no additional boarding fees, while spaces last.

Beginner Games

Something NEW for this season! A beginner friendly walk/jog games week, designed for those little ones who are interested in showing speed events. We will teach proper patterns, skills and drills in all different gaming classes. Everything then need to know to tackle their first club show or local fall fair show. For our competitive vaulters we will go over your previous show scores and see what it missing to build on what you have.
